A Clay House We Decided to Preserve
When we bought the farm, we were surprised to find that there was already a clay house on the property.
My first reaction was simple: we should not tear it down. We should rebuild it and give it a new opportunity.
We Learned How to Work with Clay
We started researching how we could rebuild the house. Through Instagram, we found an architect who came to the farm and taught us how to work with clay.
It became a learning process in which, little by little, we began to understand how to work with this material and how to recover the house that was already part of this place.
Giving the House a New Life
The house is made of rammed earth. To rebuild it, we replaced the old wood with iron and also replaced the roof tiles.
The walls were badly leaning, so we worked on them by applying a clay plaster to recover and transform these spaces.
Working with Clay Is Also a Form of Therapy
Beyond the result of the construction itself, working with clay became a special experience.
For us, working with clay is a good form of therapy. It means taking time for the process, working with our hands and learning as the house slowly takes shape again.
This house reminded us that not everything old needs to be replaced. Some things deserve to be rebuilt, cared for and become part of a new story again.
